Synthetic Gasoline at the Pump: European Debut for CAC Engineering’s MethaFuel® Technology

As of summer 2025, synthetic gasoline – developed by UEST consortium partner CAC Engineering – is available to the public for the first time near Bremen, Germany!

As of 16 June 2025, synthetic gasoline is available to the public for the first time at a CLASSIC filling station in Kirchweyhe, near Bremen, Germany. The fuel – branded KlimaBenzin95 – is a nearly climate-neutral, drop-in replacement based on renewable methanol.

At the heart of the process is MethaFuel®, a methanol-to-gasoline synthesis developed by our consortium partner CAC ENGINEERING, in collaboration with TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany. Production takes place at Europe’s largest demonstration plant for synthetic gasoline, located in Freiberg.

Fewer Emissions.
Top Engine Performance.

The key advantage of this fuel: up to 90% fewer CO₂ emissions across the entire production chain – with no compromise on engine performance, no need to retrofit vehicles, and no changes to the refuelling process.

The Kirchweyhe launch is a significant milestone, but it’s just the beginning. In Steyerberg, Lower Saxony, construction is underway on German eFuel One, Germany’s first commercial-scale plant for synthetic gasoline. The initial capacity: 75 million litres per year.

Climate-neutral mobility that works with existing infrastructure is no longer a distant goal — it’s already being delivered.
