Exploring the Future of Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen in Upper Austria!

Our consortium team, with a delegation from the Bangladesh authorities, were thrilled to visit the world’s first underground hydrogen storage facility in an underground natural gas reservoir.

The ground-breaking “Underground Sun Storage 2030” project, led by RAG Austria AG, is making strides as it transitions to real-scale implementation. In this demonstration project, renewable solar energy is converted into green hydrogen in a climate-neutral way by means of electrolysis and stored in a pure form in former natural gas reservoirs.

During the visit, we explored various aspects of stored hydrogen, its potential as a substitute for fossil natural gas, direct applications in energy-intensive industries, and the processing and utilisation of high-purity hydrogen.

Thank you to RAG Austria AG and Matthias Greiml for the presentation and the visit!
